Elderly woman dies in Yorkshire truck accident

A pensioner has been killed after being hit by a truck in a Yorkshire market town.

The 85-year-old woman was struck by a tipper vehicle near her home on Thirsk Road in Northallerton.

The accident took place at around 10am on Tuesday morning at the roundabout near Tesco and Northallerton Library.

She suffered serious injuries to her leg and later died in hospital, but her full identity has not yet been established.

Police are now appealing for people to contact them if they recognise the woman's description or witnessed the accident.

The elderly victim was wearing a long purple coat and a green fleece hat and was carrying a shopping bag. Before the collision she was walking past the library towards the roundabout.

The vehicle was red with Thompsons livery. The 51-year-old driver is currently assisting police.
