A queue of several hundred has appeared at the polling station in Trinity Church on Boar Lane, Leeds.
People in the line were told that they would face a 30-min wait to vote by stewards.
While the lines was very long those waiting remainded good natured, forming an orderly queue.
Nicola Furbisher, Managing Editor of the Yorkshire Post and Yorkshire Evening Post said that there were lots of first time voters waiting in the queue.
The scene has attracted a lot of attention on social media, with a lot of people tweeting pictures from the scene and championing the high-levels of democratic participation in the city.
