Eleventh-hour bid to keep wheel in motion

York’s answer to the London Eye could be given a new lease of life after a last-minute bid to keep the giant observational wheel running until the autumn.

A planning application has been submitted to York Council by Wheels Entertainments Limited to continue operating the attraction until September 30.

The Yorkshire Post revealed on Friday the current permission for the wheel in the grounds of The Royal York Hotel requires it to be dismantled by the end of February.

No date has been set for when the new application will go to the council’s planning committee.
