Elves play part in helping to drum up shopping trade

ELVES and musicians have helped to launch Hull's late-night shopping period with the aim of boosting city centre trade in the run-up to Christmas.

"Festive Thursdays" feature live music, mulled wine, mince pies and other offerings as well as extended shopping hours in a concerted effort to improve the experience of visitors.

The attractions and events will be taking place from 5pm until 9pm every Thursday until December 23.

The main focus of activities will be in Jameson Street, Princes Dock Street and Humber Street.

The programme has been funded by the Bondholders Scheme Ltd, and was inspired by the success of the recent "Half Past the Weekend" campaign and "Ferensway Thursday" scheme held in the city centre earlier this year.

Bondholders Scheme spokeswoman Nicola Baker said: "We're very excited to be launching Festive Thursdays as part of the wider Christmas campaign this year.

"The events on Princes Dock Street and at Shine Bar are all about making Christmas shopping more fun, giving people something fun to do in between shops and creating more of a party atmosphere.

We're delighted also to be supporting the traders on Humber Street with fantastic range of events and exhibitions."
