Embark on a journey with gallery’s latest exhibition

VISITORS to the Cooper Gallery in Barnsley can now see a new exhibition of paintings on the theme of travel.

The display, entitled Journeys, opened to the public on Saturday, January 28 and includes works by well-known artists such as Frederick Lord Leighton and John Ruskin.

A spokesman for the gallery said: “Historically, a number of artists would have travelled Western Europe as part of their training as art students.

“Italy and France were popular destinations, providing an array of beautiful views as well as the opportunity to learn from the masters.

“Take your own tour of these places in the exhibition, and venture off the beaten track to Egypt or Bermuda.”

As well as renowned artists, the new exhibition includes works by a number of lesser-known painters.

Works included in Journeys are taken from the permanent fine art collection of the trustees of the Cooper Gallery.
