Fourteen per cent of the British population “get their knowledge of farming from Emmerdale” (The Yorkshire Post, June 2).
This means 14 per cent think farmers are robbers, drug addicts, arsonists and kidnappers, as well as being in the pub 24/7, wearing designer gear which never gets dirty, driving expensive new cars and living in millionaire mansions.
The truth is completely opposite, with farmers working 24/7 often in the cold and covered in mud.
I know of no farming village remotely like Emmerdale. This show is a fictional mock-up of the truth and a shadow of the once-worth- watching Emmerdale Farm.
