Energy centre for homes unveiled

A NEW community energy centre which will power hundreds of affordable homes across York has been officially unveiled.

The Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust (JRHT) has unveiled the Energy Centre at its Derwenthorpe development where nearly 550 homes are planned to be built, claiming the facility will provide heating and hot water through the burning of biomass fuel, and also act as a meeting place for residents, businesses, schools and local groups.

Now school pupils in York are being asked to help name the new facility.

Nigel Ingram, director of development and asset management at JRHT, said: “The Energy Centre will be at the very heart of the Derwenthorpe community. It will be a fantastic facility, powering over 500 homes but also providing a central meeting point with modern facilities for local people to come together.

“It’s vital local people are involved as the development makes progress.”

Schools can enter the competition by contacting Anne Richardson on 01904 615957.
