TWISTS Pasta Bar, developed by two student entrepreneurs and backed by Innocent Drinks co-founder Richard Reed, will open this weekend.
Business partners Jeff Postlethwaite and Adam Thompson, both currently studying for degrees at Huddersfield University’s Business School, are marketing the business as a “healthy fast food concept” and they plan to have a chain of Twists Pasta Bars.
The first outlet is on New Street, in Huddersfield, and is due to be officially opened by Huddersfield Giants star prop Eorl Crabtree on Saturday at 1pm.
“The last 12 months have been the most amazing experience and we’re very excited to finally open our first shop,” said Mr Postlethwaite.
“It’s the result of a huge amount of planning and hard work over the last two years, and seeing it finished and open to customers is fantastic.”
He added: “Having Eorl here to help us open our doors for the first time is brilliant.”
The pair originally developed their business idea in 2010. After three months spent testing the concept with a stall at Huddersfield’s Queensgate Market, they went on to develop their recipes and business plan further, before finding town centre premises last November.
Last summer, they appeared on Mr Reed’s BBC Three TV show, Be Your Own Boss, and won £50,000 of financial investment and backing from him. “Richard Reed’s advice and support has been invaluable in helping us get to this point,” said Mr Thompson. “We’ve also had tremendous support from family and friends as well as from the University of Huddersfield.”
The menu has been expanded since the concept was tested at Queensgate Market and includes fresh pasta, new original recipe sauces, piegata bread and salads which are personalised for each customer.
“Our target has always been to have a chain of Twists Pasta Bars,” said Mr Thompson. “The investment provided by Richard Reed will help us take the next steps towards planning and opening those shops.”
