Anti-litter conference set for city

Sheffield is to host the National Keep Britain Tidy Conference this week, with more than 300 delegates from across the country expected to attend.

Being staged tomorrow and Wednesday the conference is this year being supported by the Streets Ahead contract and delegates will be able to learn more about how Sheffield City Council’s contractor Amey, will be managing key aspects of the contract, including street cleaning.

As part of the conference Keep Britain Tidy will this year be promoting their Love Where you Live campaign, which encourages residents, businesses and visitors to take pride in their local area by keeping places clean and litter-free.

The charity has joined forces with Big Belly Solar to trial a solar-powered, compacting bin on Pinstone Street in Sheffield.

Councillor Jack Scott, Cabinet Member for Environment, Recycling and Streetscene, said: “We are delighted to welcome the national Keep Britain Tidy conference to our city. This is a great opportunity for Sheffield to showcase its Streets Ahead contract and also how we manage our street cleaning process to the delegates and other Local Authorities attending the conference.”
