Breeding firm JSR goes for gold with
top award

Staff at pig genetics company JSR in Southburn are celebrating after the company was awarded the prestigious Investors in People Gold Standard.

Investors in People (IIP) Gold sets out a framework for evaluating how well a company connects strategy and operational planning with its people policy, and JSR is believed to be one of the first agricultural companies in the UK to be awarded the standard.

JSR chairman Tim Rymer said: “We were delighted to be awarded Investors in People Gold in an Olympic year. We have held the Investor in People Standard since 1993 and three years ago set ourselves a goal to achieve gold in 2012.

“During that time 18 new people initiatives have been implemented to help link our HR policy with our strategic goals and operational plans. I believe a well-thought out strategy implemented by well-trained and motivated people is the key to success. What we have done is make sure that it happens consistently in practice and it’s down to the commitment and hard work of the staff that we are celebrating this achievement.”

Investors in People specialises in assisting businesses support and motivate their workforce. The IIP Framework outlines what companies need to achieve to reach their targets, allowing them to decide themselves how to reach their goals. This makes the IIP system flexible enough to be used by any organisation, regardless of sector or size.

Investors in People Specialist Anne Stockdale was impressed by the way JSR incorporated people management: “Whilst they have always had good people development policies in place, they have now used the framework to introduce new initiatives and further strengthen the connection between their business strategy and people policy. I was delighted to be able to award them Investors in People Gold.”
