Campaign to promote quality of British beef

TODAY is St George’s Day and marks the start of the first ever Great British Beef Week.

To celebrate, three Yorkshire farmers are heading to Leeds Kirkgate Market to stage a one-day beef extravaganza, organised jointly by the NFU and Eblex.

York farmers Rosey Dunn and Catherine Thompson, alongside Helmsley farmer Christine Thompson are all founder members of a new national initiative, Ladies in Beef, set up to promote British beef.

The team will be available throughout the day to talk to shoppers and hand out samples of freshly cooked sirloin steak.

Renowned Yorkshire farming commentator Mike Keeble will be on hand to conduct two mock cattle auctions that members of the public can join in.

Ms Dunn said: “The big day will give everyone in Leeds the opportunity to support our campaign,” she said, “whether they are sharing a celebratory meal with friends and family or looking for the best burger to serve at a barbecue or street party.”
