Charolais bring in the higher prices

CHAROLAIS-sired cattle are averaging 10 per cent better prices per head in beef stores markets than other Continentals of the same age, says the British Charolais Cattle Society – quoting AHDB data for British live markets in 2011.

BCCS chairman Martin Donaghy commented on release of the figures: “Week in, week out, the ringside scales confirm in front of buyers’ eyes that Charolais-cross cattle demonstrate superior weight for age – reflected directly in the price which finishers are prepared to pay.

“Charolais led the beef revolution in the 1960s. Since then, breeders have continued to select carefully for the key performance traits which have maintained Charolais in the vanguard in the marketplace right through to 2012, the society’s golden anniversary year.”
