Danny aims to be cut above

There may be a growing shortage of butchers in the UK but one apprentice in Yorkshire has been handed a big opportunity.

This week is National Butchers Week and to mark it prestigious Harrogate farm supermarket Weetons have announced that 19-year-old Danny Lancaster – who came to Weeton’s through the Askham Bryan College apprenticeship scheme – has been given a unique opportunity to train there.

By his own admission, Danny did not enjoy school but he studied at Askham Bryan College where he embarked on a Butchery Skills apprenticeship with Weeton’s – his “greatest passion in life”.

Master butcher Dave Forward has passed on the skills to Danny, who takes a two-train commute each day from Selby and is proof young people are prepared to work hard to learn a trade.

Weeton’s said it is hoping to give Danny the chance to make a name for himself.
