Delving in history of an ancient farmstead

An East Riding farm is holding an evening of archaeology hosted by farmer and trained archaeologist Charlotte Shipley.

Visitors to Manor Farm in Thornholme near Bridlington will learn how excavations have revealed a farmstead dating back to the Romano British period and why recent geophysical evidence suggests that the farmstead is much larger than the excavations reveal.

Mrs Shipley said: “There’s so much to learn about how the site lies in relation to the wider landscape of the Yorkshire Wolds and Holderness flats. I will lead a guided site walk and talk which will include the site of the Romano British settlement and an area of Medieval earthworks. After the walk, we will continue to discuss how farming and archaeology run alongside each other over a cheese and wine supper.”
