Easy ride to England’s ‘oldest horse race’

IT is billed as the oldest horse race in England and it takes place just outside Market Weighton on Thursday, March 21.

The four-mile Kiplingcotes Derby has been a regular fixture since 1519 and an increase in visitors over recent years has caused parking and access issues.

To help alleviate the problem, the newly-formed Market Town Team is this year providing a free shuttle bus service connecting the town centre and the racecourse between 10am and 3pm for the race, which is due to start after 12pm, but before 2pm. Spectators can catch the bus to and from the event from bus stops outside The Griffin Inn and Asda.
