Extra hands needed at Doncaster nature project

Yorkshire Wildlife Trust’s latest project at Potteric Carr in Doncaster is being funded by a grant of £29, 548 made by The Veolia Environmental Trust through the Landfill Communities Fund.

Work on the scheme began in October with the aim of improving visitor facilities on site, with a particular focus on families.

A number of volunteers have already come forward but more hands are needed to complete the work before the September deadline.

Kat Woolley, education officer at the nature reserve, said: “The Discovery Zone project is really going to enhance the visitor experience at Potteric Carr and hopefully encourage more to experience the wildlife on site and get involved with volunteering here.

“Ideally we’d like to inspire more people to help with both wildlife surveying and monitoring, and installations including the bird viewing screen will help them do this without disturbing the wildlife on site.”

Volunteers would be asked to help in tasks such as footpath building, bridge installation, constructing a bird viewing screen, designing ‘bug hotels’ and installing interpretation boards and seating.
