Hat-trick of success for Creamery

Internationally renowned for its cheese, The Wensleydale Creamery impressed the judges with its Special Reserve Wensleydale Cheese. Made at the Creamery’s Hawes dairy in Wensleydale, it is described as a “firm, but supple, light textured acidic cheese”.

Matured for around nine months for a full flavour, it stole the show, and was awarded the Wensleydale Cup.

As the firm has looked to build on its successful cheese brand, new products have been added to the Creamery’s range and it was the latest addition that scooped another top prize at the show.

Its new luxury ‘Yorkshire Yogurt’, which was being showcased for the first time at the Great Yorkshire Show, took the award for ‘Best Yogurt’.

The new range of four flavours - strawberry and raspberry, lemon curd, rhubarb and vanilla, and toffee apple - went on sale in selected Asda stores and independent retailers last month. It is made using Yorkshire milk and contains a layer of fruit.

The Creamery also picked up the Best Butter award for its Dales Butter.

David Hartley, the Creamery’s managing director, said: “We’re over the moon to have picked up so many prestigious accolades, and especially to have come away with the award for Best Yogurt only weeks after our new Yorkshire Yogurt range went on sale.

“We’re quite rightly proud of our Yorkshire heritage and are passionate about giving visitors to the Great Yorkshire Show a true taste of the Dales.

“To be recognised with these awards at one of the nation’s premier agricultural shows is a real honour.”

The show boasted 788 cheese entries this year.
