The naked truth about fell running

In 1910 Ernest Dalzell, from Keswick, set the record of 12 minutes 59 seconds at Burnsall Feast which was unbeaten for 67 years. Dalzell was killed in the First World War.

Fred Reeves finally broke it in 1977 and his record of 12 minutes 47 seconds still holds today.

Burnsall Feast is the first Sunday after August 12.

Ted Mason, a farmer from Appletreewick, won his most recent race up (and down) Simon’s Seat near Bolton Abbey, a five-mile course, in 39 minutes. An amazing time, especially since it was a night race.
