According to the company, its new ‘Arla Big Milk’ contains extra nutrients to help support children’s growth and development. It is targeted at benefitting children aged from one to five and is made entirely with British whole cows’ milk.

Arla, which has a large dairy processing plant in Leeds which is supplied with milk from more than 250 dairy farmers in Yorkshire, said the new produce is part of its strategy to support British farmers “by developing innovative products to add value to the milk category”. It follows the recent launch of Arla Protein and Arla Skyr in the UK.

Stuart Ibberson, category director at Arla Foods, said: “This is a truly innovative fresh milk product and we developed it after identifying a gap in the market to support parents making the switch to fresh cows’ milk as well as working with a range of experts. Being owned by farmers, it’s also important that we make the most from their milk.”

Earlier in the week, Rob Harrison, the National Farmers’ Union’s dairy board chairman, told a meeting of NFU council that dairy farmers remain under pressure because of low prices. He predicted that it will be a painful year for many dairy farmers and some “may never recover”.
