Up to 100,000 honey bees are expected to take up residence this summer in two hives at Drovers Way Holiday Caravan Park in Elton, Stockton-on-Tees, just over the border of North Yorkshire.

The 10-acre site’s nectar-rich plants should help the bees to thrive; habitat creation that recently earned the park a David Bellamy Conservation Award.

Welcome to Yorkshire boss Gary Verity praised the efforts of park’s owners Chris and Helen Brown, saying: “Chris and Helen’s excellent efforts to protect the future of this region’s bees will be felt right across the county.”

Parasitic mites, disease, poor management and the use of some insecticides have all been blamed for the honey bee’s decline.
