The Lord Line building, former trawling company offices, dominated St Andrew’s Dock, but has been derelict since 1975 when the dock, home to the world’s largest deep-sea fishing fleet, closed.

Hull Council served six notices in 2014 requiring urgent work to be carried out at a number of buildings, including the Lord Line.

Lord Line Campus Ltd, part of Manor Property Group, was fined £900 yesterday at Hull magistrates for failing to comply with three notices, and ordered to pay prosecution costs of £3,877 and a victim’s surcharge of £30. The other three were dismissed with no evidence offered.

Deputy council leader Coun Daren Hale said if the buildings continued to deteriorate they would consider their options, including further legal action. He said: “These buildings have suffered from years of neglect and vandalism and in order to deal with them we had to proceed with enforcement action to tackle the derelict properties which, at present, are posing an eyesore across the city’s skyline.”
