Premier beef showcase is heading to Yorkshire

York Auction Centre will host Beef Expo on 23 May 2015, the National Beef Association announced this week. The event is held annually to bring together the very best in British commercial and pedigree cattle, equipment, knowledge-sharing, and show classes for everyone involved in the industry.

The Expo is held at a different venue in the UK each year and regularly attracts international visitors and exhibitors from around UK. This year’s event took place on Thursday at Hexham Auction Mart where the livestock classes attracted record entries. Twenty-two breed societies showcased around 200 animals and the theme of the gathering was ‘British Beef feeding our nation’.

Chris Mallon, the National Beef Association’s chief executive, said it made sense for next year’s festival to take place in York. “It’s always difficult to choose a venue for Beef Expo, because there is so much to take into consideration. We have chosen York Auction Centre because it ticks all the boxes for us: it’s in a great location, close to plenty of fantastic livestock, and will be easy for the thousands of visitors, trade stands and exhibitors to get to for the event.”

Scott Ferrie, auctioneer at York Auction Centre and chairman of Beef Expo 2015, said: “We’re at the heart of a top beef-producing area, and are looking forward to showing visitors what we do to during the farm tours that play such an important part in the Beef Expo experience. Yorkshire has some of the finest pedigree herds in the country and this gives us a great opportunity to showcase them to the rest of the British beef industry.”
