Say cheese and Wensleydale is smiling

The makers of Wensleydale Cheese have won another clutch of awards – this time at the Cheshire County Show.

The famed cheese makers, based at Hawes in the middle of the Yorkshire Dales, won awards for its Jervaulx Blue cheese, which won gold in the blue category; for its Real Yorkshire Wensleydale tall, which won gold; and its Real Yorkshire Wensleydale, which took a bronze.

David Hartley, Wensleydale Creamery’s managing director, said: “We entered four categories and for three of our cheeses to win recognition in the form of two gold and one bronze award is praise indeed for the quality of our products and the hard work and skills of our master cheese makers.

“Our milk is supplied by a network of more than 40 local family-run farms where cows graze on wild flowers, herbs and grasses that grow on the limestone meadows – this all helps give our Real Yorkshire Wensleydale its unique and special taste.

“We are now looking forward to showcasing our products at the Great Yorkshire and Nantwich Shows.”

Wensleydale Creamery is also battling to secure Protected Designation of Origin Status from the European Union, having submitted an application earlier this year.
