VISITORS to the Great Yorkshire Show got a royal wave from the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall, just as the clouds parted to herald a glorious summer afternoon.

The royal pair had a seperate tour of the Harrogate showground, with Charles talking to members of the British Horse Loggers in the forestry area, before going on to meet representatives from community charity Bell View and Camilla watching horse classes in the Main Ring.

After a brief reception, the couple made an appearance together on the balcony at the President’s Pavilion and waved to visitors as cheers and applause rang through the air.

Prince Charles was then whisked away to the livestock, where he admired the impressive native breeds champions and visited the cattle lines and the Rare Breeds Survival Trust stand.

While Camilla was given a tour of the Yorkshire Agricultural Society’s produce shop Fodder, where she presented a Duchess of Cornwall Rose to mark her visit, before moving on to see some of the rare goat breeds.

Their Royal Highnesses then reunited and Prince Charles presented outgoing show director Bill Cowling with a commeorative stick.

Mr Cowling, who is retiring after 10 years, said: “It has been a wonderful day and a wonderful honour for the show.”
