Wool board members are up for re-election

THREE members of the British Wool Marketing Board will reach the end of their present term of office at the end of March and although all are up for re-election, the board is open to nominations to replace them.

The posts open for contest are those currently held by Nigel Williams (English Central), Malcolm Corbett (English Northern) and Ian Buchanan (Northern Ireland).

The new appointments will be for three years from April 1.

Candidates must be nominated in writing by at least 10 registered wool producers in the relevant region, who will each need to supply name, address, signature and registration number, by 6pm on February 2, by fax on 01274 652233, by email to [email protected] or by post to Mrs J V Murphy, Wool House, Roydsdale Way, Euroway Trading Estate, Bradford, BD4 6SE.

Remuneration is £8,600 annually, plus expenses.

The board announcement said: “The board brings together a wide range of skills. Members normally expect to work between 20 and 30 days a year, attending board meetings over a period of two or three days each month, as well as other local and national BWMB business.”

n Richard Schofield, a 49-year-old Yorkshire roofing contractor and shearing instructor, has been named as the board’s Shearing Personality of the Year for 2011. He runs a hobby flock of 160 sheep at his home in the Skipton area.
