YP Letters: Fracking opponents cannot call on MP for help

From: Edward Grainger, Nunthorpe, Middlesbrough.
Should passing motorists honk or hoot in support of fracking protesters?Should passing motorists honk or hoot in support of fracking protesters?
Should passing motorists honk or hoot in support of fracking protesters?

LIKE Wendy Cross (The Yorkshire Post, January 31), I was disappointed to hear Scarborough MP Robert Goodwill fail in his response about fracking in Ryedale to voice his opposition to the process. He will know that this largely untested mining activity will take place across one of the most treasured areas of our beloved Yorkshire.

The peaceful protesters against the onset of the fracking industry into beautiful Ryedale must know now that they cannot call on the MP for support. The MP’s previous track record, as both a constituency member and Minister, has not acknowledged difficulties reaching James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough for hospital services or the need to upgrade the A64 York to Scarborough road which has a poor accident record.

WHEN I was in the RAF, honking was being sick, vomiting. I write this as I look at the picture (The Yorkshire Post, January 25) of a protester against fracking holding a placard reading “Honk your support” to passing motorists. Would not “Hoot your support” be much more appropriate? This showing that they do “give a hoot” for the cause?
