YP Letters: Sheffield held back by '˜19th century' mindset

I am not from Sheffield, I am a Londoner, but have been following Sheffield City Council’s ‘Streets Ahead’ program very closely and I am in complete despair at the arrogance and ignorance of Sheffield’s Labour-run Council.

Just a few weeks ago, I was delighted to learn that my hometown of London had officially declared itself a ‘National Park City’.

This means that emphasis and funds will officially be used to protect London’s green spaces.

This is because London is a 21st century city, with an understanding of the biggest threats that the planet, the environment and we, as humans, now face.

In contrast, it saddens me to see 19th century minds trying and failing to deal with 21st century problems in Sheffield.

Inciting people with provocative language on Twitter, rather than taking their views on board and listening to them, is not democracy, it is sheer contempt of democracy, of the values that Britain as a whole has and always will hold.

Any other council would be held to account for clear breaches of its own ‘Code of Conduct’, not Sheffield though it seems.
