Erosion drags tower down onto beach

An East Coast landmark has fallen victim to coastal erosion.

The observation tower – built as part of the Ringborough Battery in 1943 – has collapsed onto the beach. When it was first built it was more than 300ft from the edge, but by the end of last year, so much of the cliff had gone that it was left teetering on its concrete plinth. Dave Evans, manager of Humber Field Archaeology, said: “We are losing more and more of First and Second World War military defences along the coast.”
