Estate selects its preferred bidder for market

A PREFERRED bidder has been selected to run Malton’s livestock market.

Yesterday the Fitzwilliam Estate said that following a consultants’ report it had picked the Malton & Ryedale Farmers’ Livestock Market Company, led by Pat Foxton, as the preferred bidder to run the present market and develop a new one.

The Farmers’ Livestock Market Company has until September 6 to satisfy the estate that it has funding for the scheme.

Estate manager Roddy Bushell said: “Foremost in our minds has been the unbroken operation of the market to allow more time for a relocation of the business to be successful.”

The estate wants to redevelop the current market site and turn it into retail units.

Earlier Mr Foxton said it was imperative the market remained open until a replacement was built. It hopes to build a replacement in the vicinity of Eden Farm.
