Euro MP lends his support to Wensleydale campaign

THE battle to give Real Yorkshire Wensleydale cheese protection from impostors is to be raised in the European parliament.

Yorkshire Euro MP Timothy Kirkhope made the pledge to raise the matter with his fellow MEPs following a tour of the Wensleydale Creamery in Hawes, North Yorkshire.

The creamery has submitted an application to give its cheese Protected Designation of Origin status, which would mean it was the only producer who could legitimately call its produce Wensleydale Cheese.

The Yorkshire Post has been campaigning on the issue and Mr Kirkhope has added his support to secure protected food name status for its Real Yorkshire Wensleydale cheese.
