Everest climber to give charity talk

World-renowned mountaineer Doug Scott will be in North Yorkshire next month to give an illustrated lecture on his climbing exploits.

Scott, who has established a reputation as one of Britain’s leading mountaineers, spent over 18 months of his life on three expeditions committed to climbing Everest’s South West Face with colleague Dougal Haston. His talk, at Easingwold School, will detail his experience of surviving a night without canned oxygen or a sleeping bag in a snow cave, 100m below Everest’s summit and how he survived with two broken legs on the notorious Himalayan mountain, The Ogre, seen as one of the greatest mountaineering tales of all time.

The talk is to raise funds for UK charity New Futures Nepal (NFN) and Community Action Nepal.

NFN charity representative Colin Culley, said: “Doug Scott is a massive figure in the mountaineering world and his exploits provide inspiration for everyone.

“His talks are always a sell-out and, with only 300 places available, I would urge people to book early for this event.”
