Evidence too weak to charge Savile

Seven alleged victims of Jimmy Savile made complaints to four separate police forces while the star was still alive.

The claims were lodged with police in London, Surrey, Sussex and Jersey but on each occasion it was decided no further action should be taken.

Scotland Yard has said a retired officer told them he investigated Savile in the 1980s while based in west London but did not have enough evidence to proceed.

Surrey Police submitted a file to the Crown Prosecution Service in 2009 detailing four potential offences.

The allegations related to three possible victims in Surrey and another in Sussex.

Jersey Police received a claim in 2008 of an indecent assault at the Haut de la Garenne children’s home on the island in the 1970s.
