Ex-footballer boosts health scheme

FORMER Bradford City manager and player Terry Dolan is backing a new scheme to boost the health and social activity of men aged over 55.

The Gents Club will offer members the opportunity to share memories and stories and plan outings and events together.

They will also have the opportunity to get more active by trying out some gentle games of football.

Bradford City Football Club and Bradford Council’s Sport and Leisure Services are behind the project which was launched yesterday at the Richard Dunn Sports Centre in Bradford.

Mr Dolan, who played for Bradford City and was also manager from 1987 to 1989, joined the council’s sports development team and staff from the Bradford City Community Foundation to kick off the project.

Paula Helliwell, of Bradford City Football Foundation, said: “Whenever we have done any focus groups or events the men always say they would like more time to meet together and share memories and socialise.

“Also, when we interviewed the former players for our heritage project they said they would love to get together more often.”
