Ex-hospital worker charged with sex assaults

A FORMER hospital worker has been charged with the alleged sexual assault of three elderly women who were in his care, police said last night.

Matthew Shah, 23, of Savile Street, Retford, Nottinghamshire, has been charged with three counts of sexual assault.

Shah was working as a health care assistant at Bassetlaw Hospital in Worksop at the time of the alleged assaults in 2010.

He has since been dismissed as an employee of Bassetlaw Hospital .

The alleged assaults relate to three women aged 64, 84 and 88, who were all being treated at the hospital.

Shah has been released on police bail and will appear at Worksop Magistrates’ Court on September 29.

A spokesman for Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust said yesterday: “This member of staff was dismissed in August 2010 following an internal investigation.

“He had worked at Bassetlaw Hospital on two medical wards from March 2009 to the end of May 2010.

“The families of three patients have been interviewed by the police in connection with this charge.

“Nottinghamshire Police has also interviewed numerous staff, but is not pursuing any other lines of inquiry.”
