Ex-teacher embarks on new journey exploring digital art

AFTER being made redundant two years ago Stuart Wroe decided to pursue his ambition to become an artist.

Mr Wroe began using his surroundings as inspiration and taking pictures and digitally recreating images of decay such as neglected buildings.

Now the former teacher and international development worker from Skipton is getting ready for his first major exhibition at the Corn Exchange, in Leeds, next month, as part of the Leeds Digital Festival.

Mr Wroe said: “It’s pretty remarkable being involved in the digital festival. The meetings are full of very young, new media-type people.

“For me having had that journey when I was made redundant and asking ‘what do I do now?’ to being able to embrace digital art forms has been transformative.”

The father-of-two, who is in his 50s, won funding and a year’s free workspace at the Round Foundry, in Leeds, to develop his art.

He used his digital single lens camera to take the initial photographs before using various techniques to enhance and ‘recreate’ the images.
