Ex-teacher wins fiction competition

David Stokes’ short story, called Good Dog Josie and Mr John, has now been published in an anthology that is available to borrow from every library across the district.

Mr Stokes, who has never had anything published previously, also received a bag of goodies which included books and free tickets to the Bronte Parsonage Museum.

The fiction competition, was organised by Bradford Council’s libraries, invited residents in the Bradford district to submit stories of 3,000 words or less.

The council-produced anthology, called Good Dog Short Stories, also includes stories by the three runner ups in the competition.

Christine Dyson, Bradford Council’s principal libraries officer (outreach and development), said yesterday: “The standard of short stories entered into this competition was extremely high and it demonstrates the wealth of creative talent across the district.”
