Exhibition chance for amateur artists to showcase their work

GALLERY bosses have appealed for amateur artists to put their work forward for an open exhibition which aims to offer a wide range of people the chance to show their work.

The Harley Open Exhibition will open next Saturday and run for a month, and curators said any work was welcome as long it fitted with the theme H is for.

Staff at the Harley Gallery, on the Welbeck Estate, near Worksop, said work could be a picture of rolling hills or houseboats, or be a piece of work in half-cross stitch.

Gallery director Lisa Gee said: “We’re very excited to see entries from all artists, from those with years of experience and superb skill, to those that are brand new to art and starting to experiment.

“We know there are a lot of talented artists out there and this is a fantastic opportunity to showcase their work.”

Work will be judged by a panel including gallery owners and Harley Gallery visitors and prizes are on offer, including The Harley Prize of £750 and two other prizes worth £250. Entries cost £10 for adults, and are free for children under 12.

Well-known artists to have exhibited their work at the gallery, which is on the A60 Mansfield Road, Welbeck, include David Hockney and Sir Peter Blake.

For more details of how to enter work, visit the gallery’s website at www.harleygallery.co.uk or call 01909 501700.
