A carpenter’s son, he was apprenticed to the family firm and brought up as an architect and master builder.

Fowler and his son Joseph worked as builders and architects in Winterton during the Georgian and Regency periods. They are best known for their coloured engravings of Roman mosaics and stained glass windows.

The new exhibition showcases the national importance of Fowler’s highly skilled work and features examples of his decorative arts, architecture and furniture. Visitors can also step into a replica of his workshop and discover how he worked.

The museum is holding a free Fowler-inspired family fun day this Saturday from 10.30am, including making a large stained glass window.
