Exhibition of photographs ranges across land and sea

LANDSCAPES, townscapes and seascapes from Whitby to The Deep in Hull are the subject of a new photographic exhibition.

The work by members of the Picture This Photographic Club have gone on display in the exhibition Yorkshire in Season at Hedon Museum, near Hull.

The club was founded in Withernsea in the summer of 2000 by a group of keen local photographers and their latest efforts are on view until June 18. Overall club winner of the year is Mike Franks’ shot of Tunstall, with snow strewn cliffs, spray from a big sea and Withernsea Lighthouse in the distance, captured in the dying light of a winter’s day.

Other arresting images include Mike James’ picture of Spurn Lighthouse framed by the remains of a Victorian groyne and David Walker’s Hull Fair.

The group, which describes itself as a “friendly group with interest in all aspects of photography”, has members from the Holderness villages of Keyingham, Ottringham and Patrington, as well as Hedon and Withernsea. It meets twice a month, sometimes for speakers and organised outings. Every year it produces a popular calendar covering the Holderness area.

The museum is open every Wednesday and Saturday from 10am to 4pm. Admission is free. To view more pictures visit www.picturethis-holderness.co.uk.
