Extension hope for disability services

CALDERDALE Council’s cabinet is to consider a request to extend the contracts for physical disability services with three organisations.

Scope, Calder Valley Club and Heath Stroke Club currently provide physical disability day services on behalf of the council.

The contracts are due to expire on May 31 and the council began re-tendering for the services earlier in the year.

But it is being recommended to councillors that, the contracts be extended to December 2011 to give the council longer to select the most appropriate providers, although it is expected that the process will be completed well before that date.

The council’s director of adult health and social care, Jonathan Phillips. said: “Some of our most vulnerable residents use disability day services and the council’s priority must be to ensure that the services they need and deserve are of the highest quality.

“At a time of budget cuts the council has maintained resources and funding for these vital services and we need to ensure that we select the very best providers through a transparent and open process.”
