'Failings' of child abuse police probe

POLICE failed to investigate suspects in a child abuse inquiry and gave false and misleading information about someone who complained about the force's handling of the case, a damning report has revealed.

Humberside Police is heavily criticised by the Independent Police Complaints Commission over its investigation into abuse at the Roman Catholic St William's Children's Home in East Yorkshire.

The IPCC upheld 25 complaints against Operation Aldgate, which looked into allegations of physical and sexual abuse over a 27-year period, and ruled it was under-resourced and inadequately supervised.
