Fairy story at heart of garden

A new sculpture and community garden will celebrate the infamous story of the Cottingley fairies.

Work has started to turn Cottingley Oval into a central meeting place and community garden. The centrepiece of the garden is a sculpture depicting the Cotttingley fairies.

Two cousins fooled the world in a hoax using hat pins and paper cut-outs of fairies copied from a book, of which they then took photographs.

The story was also made into a film called Fairytale: A True Story.

The garden and artwork is a joint venture between Cottingley Community Association and Bradford Council.

Work is expected to be completed in the next few weeks when the site will be open to the public.
