Falcon chicks hatch

A NEW generation of peregrine falcons has hatched in two of Yorkshire’s most stunning backdrops.

The spectacular birds, which can fly at speeds of more than 200mph, have been nesting on the cliffs below Scarborough Castle and at Malham Cove in the Yorkshire Dales. And the RSPB, which has been monitoring the birds from specially constructed viewing points, say their chicks have now hatched – with three appearing at Malham.

Carolyn Jarvis, of the RSPB, said: ‘The chicks are really fluffy and cute. It is hard to imagine that, in a short time, they will grow into such fearsome predators.’
