Fallen soldier remembered in his village

A CARE home will remember the life of a Yorkshire soldier with a special service and fund-raising day.

Greenacres Care Home at Meltham, Huddersfield wants to boost funds for the Yorkshire Regiment in memory of Private Tom Wroe, who lived in the village.

He and a Yorkshire Regiment colleague were shot dead by a rogue Afghan policeman.

The fund-raising day, from 2pm on Saturday October 20, is the idea of care home manager Anne Shaw who said: “Tom was from the village so it feels very personal.

“Local retailers have been so kind with donations of raffle and tombola prizes including an i-pad, vacuum, wines, chocolates and everyone has promised to bake.”

Pte Wroe’s funeral is taking place in Meltham tomorrow.
