Family adds to hospital’s cot appeal

AN APPEAL to replace every cot in York Hospital’s maternity ward, which deals with about 3,400 deliveries every year, is nearing completion with thousands of pounds already pledged.

The Lots of Cots Appeal was opened to replace all 36 cots at York Hospital – with each costing nearly £1,400.

Fundraisers revealed they have just 10 cots still to replace, with the family of one recent arrival making the latest donation.

York Teaching Hospital Charity’s fundraising manager, Lucy Watson, said: “We have already replaced 26 of the unit’s 36 cots. The existing cots are 30 years old and have served three generations. It’s fantastic to be able to bring the unit bang up to date with new electronic height adjusting cots. They are of particular benefit to women who have had caesarean sections as they no longer need to bend down to the cot. Each cot makes a big difference to the 3,400 mums every year whose babies are delivered in the maternity unit. We’re really grateful for all the support.”

Baby Joshua Castle has just been born in the unit. His grandmother Anne Brabbs said: “It’s lovely to donate something that you know will be so well used.”
