Family anguish over pool death boy

The family of a two-year-old boy who drowned in a Florida swimming pool said yesterday their lives had been "turned upside down".

Tom Edwards, from Llandegla, Denbighshire, north Wales, died on March 26 while staying at a holiday home in Orlando with his parents Martin and Wendy Edwards and two older brothers.

Tom was found floating face down in the pool and despite frantic efforts from his family and the assistance of paramedics and doctors, he could not be saved. A post-mortem examination suggested he had died from "accidental drowning", according to local reports in Florida.

In a statement released via North Wales Police, his family, believed to be still in the US, said: "On Friday March 26 2010 our world was turned upside down after the tragic death of our two-year-old beloved son Tom.

"Tom accidentally died during a family holiday in Florida, despite the best efforts of the paramedics who attended and the hospital staff.

"At this time we would like to thank our family and friends within our local community who have showed us great kindness at this dreadful time.

"As a family we would ask that any media interest is kept to a minimum and that our family privacy is respected at this very difficult time."
