Family antiques firm shuts with a sell-off

AlbertRoss Salvage Emporium in Walkley is closing as mother-and-daughter owners Kathy Boyd, Jean Young and Jan Young say they want to “move on in new directions”.

Mrs Boyd, whose father Jim Young founded the business, said: “We have always enjoyed being part of our local community but now have other interests we want to pursue.

“The premises at South Road are full of treasures accumulated over the last 40 years, some bought by my father who loved this business all his life and some by my mother, sister and myself.

“We are really sad to have to sell off our stock at way below its value, but we have so much that we just need to clear the place out prior to selling the site for development.”

Among the stock on offer will be hundreds of antique Victorian fireplaces and un-numbered architectural antiques, Mrs Boyd added.

She said: “We expect to have antique specialists, people in the trade and bargain hunters from all over the country.

“The stocks we have can’t just be bought at your local store, these are all one-off items and some will never come on to the market again.

“Some of our items have graced the finest Victorian and Edwardian villas and others are just pure fun, but we hope that they will all be loved in their new homes the way we have loved them.”
