Family call on wealthy killer to reveal where he hid wife's body

The family of a woman murdered by her wealthy husband has pleaded with him to reveal where her body is.

Farmer Adrian Prout is serving a life sentence for the murder of Kate Prout during a bitter divorce dispute over their 1.2m farm in Gloucestershire.

Her brother Richard Wakefield pleaded with Prout to tell police where he hid his wife's body and said his family cannot move on until she is laid to rest.

"I would like Adrian Prout to come forward and tell us where Kate is, what happened to her," Mr Wakefield said.

"I would like to know where she is, bring her back and give her a proper burial, to put her at rest. It's very important. It's more important than anything.

"It's very difficult. It is like our family is under a sentence ourselves. It's over our heads all the time. It would make it easier for us because we could do something about it then."

Mrs Prout, 55, a retired teacher, vanished on bonfire night three years ago from her home at Redmarley, Gloucestershire.

Mr Wakefield, 60, from Lypiatt, near Stroud, Gloucestershire, said the last three years have been very difficult for his family.

"It's been a complete upheaval of life, the last three years.

"No one ever expects something of this scale to happen to their own family," he said.

"It's there all the time. We very often wake up in bed, thinking about Kate, what's happened to her and where she is."

Prout, 47, was convicted in February by a jury at Bristol Crown Court of the murder of his wife and jailed for life.

He was ordered to serve a minimum of 18 years.

After Mrs Prout disappeared, Prout got engaged to Debbie Garlick, who is now campaigning in a bid to prove her fiance's innocence.

Mr Wakefield accused Ms Garlick of being "disrespectful" and described her claims that Mrs Prout was still alive as "nonsense".
