Family devote their summer holiday to the Games

While most people hoped to get tickets for one Olympic event, one family have made the Games the focus of their summer holiday.

Natalie and Mike Rothwell and their two children are spending three weeks in the capital, taking in as many events as possible. The couple, along with Oliver, 15, and seven-year-old Ellie, travelled from their home in Southport to camp in Seer Green, Buckinghamshire, for the duration of the Games.

They managed to get tickets for a number of events and when they are not watching them live, are tuning into the Olympics on the television they have brought with them.

The family were on Murray Mount watching the tennis yesterday – including Andy Murray’s bid for double gold in the men’s finals and mixed doubles.

But they also managed to get tickets for football matches, gymnastics and basketball, and are due to watch some canoeing.

“We’ve been here since the opening ceremony,” said Mr Rothwell, 38. “We watched the football at Old Trafford then drove down through the night.”

Mrs Rothwell, 35, added: “We managed to get a few tickets for things, we’re really lucky.

“We’ve been planning this whole thing for months, Ellie has been counting down the days.

“We’re here for three weeks, so even when the Olympics finishes we’ve got a week of sightseeing.”
