Family in emotional appeal for help to find killer

THE GIRLFRIEND of a murdered father-of-two broke down in tears yesterday as she appealed for people to come forward with information on his fatal stabbing, which took place on a Sheffield dancefloor on New Year’s Day.

Four men have been arrested in connection with the death of Joshua Green, who was killed in the early hours of New Year’s Day in the Stars and Mayfair party suites on Queen’s Road, but nobody has ever been charged with his murder.

Yesterday, Mr Green’s girlfriend Aisha McNellie, his two-year-old daughter Jadore, his 18-year-old sister Chloe and his mother Sarah Thompson made an emotional plea outside the venue where he was stabbed.

So far, around 400 of the estimated 500 revellers have spoken to police, but others have refused to co-operate.

Miss McNellie, 28. said: “We, Josh’s family, have come up against a brick wall and cannot move forward. We may have laid Josh to rest but we can’t rest as we are in torment.

“If you were at the Stars and Mayfair function suites at the time and have not come forward because you think you can’t help, please think again. The smallest of information might be significant.”

As Miss McNellie broke down in tears, Chloe Green added: “Joshua was a well-loved young man, who was beginning to make a positive contribution.

“He was applying for university and making a home for his family, who were his greatest joy and achievement.

“He has two beautiful children who are now fatherless through no fault of their own. What does the future hold for them?

Mr Green was known to police and was set to appear in court on drugs charges when he was killed.

However, his family said he had “turned his life around”, was intending to start an IT course at university, and was a “family guy.”

Detective Superintendent Terry Mann said that more than 2,000 lines of enquiry had already been pursued, but there were “people who are refusing to help.”

He said: “I want it known that South Yorkshire Police are still working very hard to bring his killers to justice, but to do so we need the help of the people in the club that night.

“While many people have provided us with statements, others have chosen to stay silent or have refused to help.”

Mr Green, from Manor Park, Sheffield, suffered a fatal stab wound to the neck.

Friends, relatives, staff and fellow partygoers battled to revive him, but he could not be saved.

Anyone with information on the case, or who was at the party that night, should call South Yorkshire Police on 101.
